Description

Join us October 10 -12, 2014 and get to know your Dining for Women colleagues from the Central Region. You will stay at the lovely art deco Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel in downtown Cincinnati.

Friday, October 10: Pre-event festivities will begin with a meet-and-greet with hors d'oeuvres and cash bar reception in the hotel from 6:00 - 9:00pm. Your registration materials will be available at that time.

Saturday, October 11: Start the day at the hotel with a welcome and kickoff from Dining for Women co-founders Marsha Wallace and Barb Collins at 9 a.m. Morning sessions will follow and include:

  • Hearing about DFW Program Selection from two members of the Program Selection Team — Corinne Blakemore and Karen O'Brien.
  • Viewing Guatemala and Vietnam through the photos and experiences of DFW travelers Meg Sears, Cindy Bagocius, Colleen Blanchfield, and Rhonda Grissom.
  • Learning more about human trafficking in the United States from Pamela Matson, a local FBI Investigator.

After lunch, meet three of DFW's featured program co-founders: Devin Hibbard of Bead for Life, Colleen Clines of Anchal, and Joanna Sherman of Bond Street Theatre. They will talk about the impact our support has had on their work in Uganda, India, and Afghanistan respectively.

A marketplace will be available at all events and venues, featuring products from Bead for Life, Anchal, and Ten Thousand Villages.

Free Time from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. Your choice! Take a nap or explore the river walk in downtown Cincinnati and then be ready for events at the Freedom Center!

Saturday events at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center - included in your conference registration fee:

  • 4:00 - 5:00 pm - Group introduction to the Freedom Center, followed by a self-guided tour
  • 5:00 - 6:00 pm - Reception with hors d'oeuvres from our DFW recipe database, cash bar
  • 6:00 - 7:00 pm - Dinner featuring international dishes
  • 7:00 - 7:30 pm - Keynote address, Tara Abrahams, President, Girl Rising
  • 7:30 - 9:15 pm - Viewing of the film Girl Rising

NOTE: If you are traveling with a friend or spouse who isn't attending the conference, you can purchase a ticket for them to attend the Saturday night event ($50.00) on our registration page.

Sunday, October 12 - all events will be at the hotel beginning with a continental breakfast at 9:00 am and a work session on Central Region challenges and opportunities. Closing comments and activities will be followed by brunch at 11:00 am.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS: DFW has reserved a block of rooms at $135/night plus tax (double). This rate will be available for DFW attendees from October 9 -12, in case you would like to extend your stay.
